Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged students to understand the ground reality of the country and take responsibility for shaping its future. Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Saturday, Thapa acknowledged that while some progress has been made in Nepal, much remains to be done.

He cautioned students against falling into the trap of extreme narratives—either of alarmism or hopelessness. “Don’t believe someone has threatened this country,” he said, “but also don’t believe that someone has come and completely ruined it. Some good things have happened; many good things haven’t. Appreciate what’s been done, and criticize what hasn’t.”

Thapa encouraged the youth to stay engaged, question with curiosity, and think critically. He stressed the importance of personal perseverance, saying, “It is now our responsibility. Don’t get tired, don’t run away, and don’t get lost.”

He also expressed optimism about the younger generation, stating that he believes they will outperform his generation in leading the nation toward progress.
